The Patrimony of the Buzareingues

Le Patrimoine des Buzareingues

Introduction:

In some genealogical data bases there appears to be confusion to how the title, dignity, and land of the Buzareingues came to be. This entry has as a purpose to clarify the apparent confusion and demonstrate the genealogical connections between  the families that have inherent the castle of Buzareingues and its lands.

According to the "Documens hisoriques et généalogiques sur les familles et les hommes remarquables du Rouergues" [Hippolyte de Barrau: 1857, 392], the castle of the Buzareingues belonged to the Hérail family since the 13th century. The castle is located in the valley of Aveyron near the city of Buzeins from which comes the name of the castle and title (Seigneur de Buzareingues). Also, the château de Brisis (1180) belonged to the family for over 600 years.

The Hérail family kept the castle through an English invasion and occupation of the valley in 1372 (Source 2) . Also, the castle withstood the War of Religions in France. It was briefly held by the Huguenot Captains Aubin and Seguin in 1587.

In about 1600, the  castle and its lands are bought by the ROQUELAURE family and it passed through marriage into the hands of the d'Alichoux family in 1638 (Source 1 and 2).

Note: According to the "Documens historiques et généalogiques sur les familles et les hommes" (de Barrau, 1854), Alexandre de Roquelaure was an illegitimate son of Guion I de Roquelaure. It is possible that Alexandre bought the land and castle known as Buzareingues from the d'Hérail family in the 1600's. It is in this way that the Buzareingues land and title passes into the Roquelaure family and later through marriage to the d'Alichoux family.

There is a dispute whether Felix-Andre de Roquelaure is the same as Alexandre de Roquelaure.
