Albert I, as Lieutenant des maréchaux de France, carried the duty to issue verdicts on cases involving the armed gentlemen of the land. This meant that he could hear cases involving honor that otherwise would end in a duel. The office of Lieutenant des maréchaux de France was established by Royal Decree in 1693 and according to the decree, the person chosen to be Lieutenant des maréchaux de France had to not only hold the rank of a captain but demonstrate three degrees of nobility:
Such an appointment confirms the notion that by the 1760's the Philippi family had reached a noble status in France compared to the greatest dynasties.
Albert I, was also the founder of a free school in Saint Quentin for painting in 1782. He was known for his love for art and patronage of it. He was also a painter himself. During his time in exile, Albert and his sons earned their living by working on the restoration of at least two houses owned by other nobles.
On March 14, 1771 Albert I PHILIPPY DE BUCELLY d'ESTRÉES married Anne Catherine GEORGIA
He issued the following children:
1) Albert II, Third Baron d'Estrées (1772 to 1838) and had issue (see blog entry)
2) Albert III, Chevalier de Bucelly d'Estrées (1777 to 1850) and had issue (see blog entry)
