The Lion/Leopard:
The "lion passant" in the coat of arms is an ancient symbol in French heraldry that was later adopted by the English. It traditionally symbolizes valor, courage, and royalty. The Three Unicorn Heads:
The unicorn or licorne is an ancient symbol of the incarnation of the Son of God (the word made flesh). It is also a symbol of raw human nature. The appearance of three unicorn heads could mean the Holy Trinity. Purity and virtue are also associated with the unicorn. The Three Roses:
The rose is known to symbolize hope and joy but can also mean grace. The number three again could be associated with the Holy Trinity. In some cases, it can also be a symbol for the Virgin Mary, Mother of God. A seventh son might also use the rose as a mark of distinction.Half (Demi) fleurs de lys:
Ancient symbol of the Royal House of France. It is also the symbol of the Virgin Mary. It thus represents, light, purity, and virtue. When it is represented as half, it means that the other half has been covered by a portion of the shield (or blazon). The Sun:
The soleil or sun is the symbol of radiance, glory, happiness, and life. The Wheel of Saint Catherine:
Perhaps its place in the coat of arms of the PHILIPPY in France symbolizes 1) readiness to die (martyrdom) and 2) the historical symbol of the mythical founder of the PHILIPPY dynasty in Italy, Braccio FILIPPI (see above emblem). The Coat of Arms of the Philippi (y) de Bucelly d'Estrées (Circa 1890)
