DelSarte Genealogy

From Italy to France

The last name "del Sarte" - as it is spelled today- underwent several changes during many generations. It was first recorded in the Etat Civil of about 1650 as "DELESART" and it appears that it was also written as "de l'Essart" and "DELSARTE".

As it is evident in the 1909 Requiem Card, the family of  Désiré Louis RÉAL (1852-1909) made a change to the last name (see below):

Funeral Card (Source 1)

Currently, the branch of Désiré Louis RÉAL use   RÉAL + DEL SARTE.
Thus, for the purpose of this blog we will use this change in name for that branch of the family.

If the last name has Italian origins, it might also  have been written as "Del Sarto".

Some genealogical studies trace a lineage to  Andrea del Sarto (1483-1530), who was an Italian painter in Florence during the High Renaissance and early Mannerist style. Perhaps here is the origin of the great artistic abilities of the french "del Sarte" branch (Source 2 and Source 3).

The DelSarte Family in Solesmes - France

Solesmes (Nord)

We can however trace the del Sarte family, with some certitude, to the 17th century. The del Sarte family established themselves for many generations in Solesmes (Nord), France.

In the État Civil it is registered that:

1) Nicolas DelSART (1645-1676)  married on June 10, 1665 Hélène DOUDELET. They issued six chidlren but only two survived (Jean and Marguerite)

Biographical Note:

Hélène was the daughter of Jean DOUDELET, Clerc at the parish in Solesmes (Nord), Lieutenant de Doyen, and in 1650 Échevin

Claudine Pardon in her article "Les origines de François DelSarte" asserts that that given the relative high status of the DOUDELET family the same was probably true of the DelSarte family since during that time one married only within same circles (paraphrased from original in French, Source 12).

Jean DelSarte was buried in the Chapel of Saint Nicholas in the local church of Solesmes (Nord).

2)  Jean DELSARTE (1666-1732) married April 5, 1689 to Jeanne CHARPENTIER and issued (Adrien Niclas)

Jean DELSARTE married a second time on June 29, 1695 to Anne BECQUET (1678-1751) and issued

3)  Adrien Nicolas DELSARTE (1690-1740) was Échevin de Solesmes, fermier (Magistrate and Tax Collector) and he married Jeanne F. DELAPORTE (1683) and issued

Biographical Note on Jeanne F. DELAPORTE:

She was the daughter of  Joachim DELAPORTE (1643-1695),Censier de l'abbaye, échevin (1672-1673), lieutenant prévôt (1675-1676) and Jeanne Claire DELAFERRIERE (1649-1729)

4) Nicolas Francois DELSARTE(1722-1793) who married Marie Barbe BAUDOUR (1713) and issued

5) Jean Nicolas Joseph DELSARTE (1751-1807), Medical Doctor and Commissaire de la République  who married on June 9, 1778 Marie-Agnes DELOGE and issued two children (Jean-Nicolas-Touissant and Jean-Baptiste):

 Biographical Note:

According to the study conducted by Claudine Pardon (which we cite in this blog entry), Jean-Nicolas-Joseph DelSarte signs for the first time his name with an "e" making the last name DELSART(E).

Moreover, Jean-Nicolas-Joseph DelSARTE married his cousin. Marie-Agnes DELOGE  who was the daughter of Joachim DELAPORTE and Jeanne Claire DELAFERRIERE.

6) Jean Nicolas Touissant DELSARTE (1778-1846)  who married Aimée ROLAND (1794-1837) and issued three children ( François, Aimée  and Marie) :

Biogrphical Note:

Aimée ROLAND was born on May 26, 1794 in Saint-Omer. She had as God-father Alexandre DEGUINE and as God-mother she had her maternal aunt Marie-Louise DUNAN. Thus, we can conclude that is partially descendant of the DUNAN family.

Her grand-father was François DUNAN, Master-Surgeon. François DUNAN was married to Marie GÉNEAU de la MARLIÉRE.

The GÉNEAU de la MARLIÉRE trace their origin to Bolougne-Sur Mer and Pas-de Calais. The family owned a fief called la MARLIÉRE from which they took their last name (Source 12).

The second took place on January 3, 1887 with the marriage of Désiré Louis RÉAL (1852-1909) to Magdeleine DelSARTE (1953-1927). She was the daughter of  François Alexandre Nicolas Chéri DELSARTE (1811-1871) and Rosine ANDRIEN (1817-1891) of the House of  Philippy de Bucelly d'Estrées.

DelSarte and the House of Philippy Bucelly d'Estrées (1833)
