Honneur et la Gloire


Honneur et la Gloire (Honor and Glory)

 This blog entry recognizes the long service of  House of PHILIPPI(y) de BUCELLI(Y) d'ESTRÉES to FRANCE by honoring recipients of major honors. Some of these honors were given by former Kings and Presidents of France for military and artistic endeavors.

Ordre de Saint-Michel (The Royal Order of Saint Michael)

This order was established by His Majesty the King of France, Louis XI on August 1, 1469. Until the founding of the Royal Order of the Holy Spirit, the Order of Saint Michael was the highest chivalry order in the Kingdom of France. The motto of the order was "immensi tremor oceani" (great tremor of the ocean). The King of France dedicated the order to Saint Michael, the Archangel.

I. Paul PHILIPPY, Chevalier, Seigneur de TRONQUOY, Captain of Infantry 

On August 12, 1660, Paul was appointed Chevalier or Knight of the Royal Order of Saint Michael by his Majesty the King of France and Navarre, Louis XIV (1638 – 1715).

Paul was the son of Pasquier PHILIPPY, Seigneur du TRONQUOY and Martine HULIN. He married Marie CHARPENTIER and issued.



Ordre Royal et Militaire de Saint-Louis 

(The Royal and Military Order of Saint Louis) 


The Royal and Military Order of of Saint Louis was founded in 1693 by His Majesty King Louis XIV with the intention to reward exceptional officers. Hereditary nobility was awarded to the sons and grandsons of a Knight. The Order was discontinued in 1791 and later replaced by the Legion of Honor.

I. Albert PHILIPPY de BUCELLY du TRONQUOY (1745-1808), Second Baron d'Estrées

He was Chevau-Leger de la Garde du Roi (1768), Lieutenant des maréchaux de France ( 1771).

Albert  and was created a Knight of the Ordre Royal et Militaire de Saint-Louis in about 1771 by the Grace of His Majesty the King of France and Navarre, Louis XV.

On Mach 4, 1771 he married Anne Catherine de GEORGIA (1753). She was the daughter of  Jean Baptiste de GEORGIA, Constable of the King, and Catherine ROUILLON and they issued.

Albert's son,  Albert Quentin Marie Catherine, Chevalier de Bucelly d'Estrées (1777-1850) was the first in the family to use the title Chevalier as a result of the hereditary nature of the Order of Saint Louis.

 

Ordre national de la Légion d'honneur 

(The National Order of the Legion of Honor)

Original Legion of Honor Founded By the Emperor Napoleon

The Legion of Honor of France was established by His Imperial Majesty, Napoleon the First on May 19, 1802. Unlike previous orders of merit, there was no requirement of nobility to become a member. Membership existed in five categories: Chevalier (Knight), Officier (Officer), Commandeur (Commander), Grand Officier (Grand Officer), and Grand Croix (Grand Cross). The motto of the order is honneur et patrie (honor and country). The Legion of Honor was created to replace the Order of Saint Louis which was established in 1693.

Many members of the The House of PHILIPPI(y) de BUCELLI(Y) d'ESTRÉES received this great honor. The list is by date  of appointment to the Legion of Honor.


I. Louis Samuel Albert Désiré Béchet de Léocourt, Baron of the Empire, Commandeur (1804,1808,1838)

He was the son of Gabrielle Marie Philibertine Charlotte PHILIPPY de BUCELLY du TRONQUOY and  Louis Joseph BECHET, Lord of LEHAULCOURT (Léocourt)

Louis Samuel served the French Empire under Napoleon the First.

II. François Alexandre Nicolas Chéri del Sarte, Chevalier (1870)

On August 9, 1870 the French government, under Third Republic, awarded the Paris declamation and signing teacher the rank of Chevalier of the Legion of Honor. François del Sarte was a former member of the Paris Opera and by marriage to Rosine ADRIEN (1817-1891), a member of the House of Philippy Bucelly d'Estrées.

III. Désiré Louis Réal del Sarte, Chevalier (1903)

 He was married to  Marie Magdeleine Blanche Geneviève del SARTE (1853-1927) and was a noted sculptor. Désiré Louis was a Captain of Infantry in the Territorial Army. He began his military career on March 10, 1873 and promoted to captain in 1895. On July 11, 1903, Désiré Louis was appointed Chevalier of the Legion of Honor. 

Member of the House of  Philippy Bucelly d'Estrées by marriage.

IV. Thérèse Marie Rosine Geraldy, Chevalier (1939)

She was born to Louis Paul GERALDY and Marie Anne Elizabeth del SARTE (daughter of François del Sarte and Rosine ADRIEN of the House of Philippy Bucelly d'Estrées) on June 18, 1886 and died on July 31, 1965.

Thérèse Marie Rosine was a noted portrait artist. She was a student of her aunt Marie Magdeleine del Sarte and probably was trained at the Académie Julian. Thérèse Marie Rosine was a appointed a Chevalier of the Legion of  Honor on February 27, 1939.

V. Maxime Réal del Sarte, Chevalier (1940)


Maxime Louis Camille was the son of  Désiré Louis REAL and Magdeleine Blanche Geneviève del SARTE [of the House of Philippy Bucelly d'Estrées]. He was born on May 2, 1888 in Paris, France and died in Saint Jean de Luz in 1954. He was a decorated veteran of World War I (1914-1918). Maxime Louis Camille received  the Médaille militaire (Military Medal) for valor and wounds during the war and the Croix-de-Guerre aux Palms.

Many of the most magnificent monuments honoring the dead of World War I came from the hand of Maxime Louis Camille. He was appointed Chevalier of the Legion of Honor on February 20, 1940.

 

  La Société d'Encouragement Au Bien (S.E.A.B.)



La Société d’Encouragement au Bien (S.E.A.B.) was founded in 1862 by Honore ARNOUL. On Setember 5, 1863, the Ministry of the Interior of France authorized its distribution. The medal was intended to honor those that have demonstrated examples of courage and civic or social engagement.

I. Désiré Louis Réal del Sarte, Chevalier (1903)

In 1903, Désiré Louis Réal del Sarte received the the medal Encouragement Au Bien.
